Learning in the Making

In response to the sudden shift to virtual learning at the height of 2020 pandemic, I co-founded Maker Ed’s Learning in the Making program, an online video series designed to support educators and families with accessible hands-on learning experiences. This video series was designed to highlight diverse ways of making in order to validate the different ways that knowledge is created, especially in communities of color, and provide families with inspiration for creative learning.

There are thirty-two episodes covering topics like cooking, coding, design, music, puppets, poetry, pop-ups, and storytelling.

Each episode was co-hosted where we invited BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) educators, creators, and makers to co-host, telling their stories and showcasing their work. We published interviews highlighting thier work and created bilingual projects guides in English and Spanish.

Home Maker Kits

In addition to starting Maker Ed’s online video series, I led an initiative to distribute kits and projects to youth in Oakland. I partnered with educators from multiple after school programs to distribute 1250+ maker kits to families that included accessible materials for at home activities and bilingual project guides.

I also worked with a local Oakland educator to collect a series of stories centering educator and youth voices and their experience engaging in maker-centered learning during the 2020 pandemic.
